There are days when my heart just breaks at the pain that people suffer in this world. Yes, the tragedies like Mumbai and all those global horrors, but also the dark and hideous pain caused beyond closed doors, in someone’s bedroom, someone’s home- under the name of love.

In the past 24 hours I have read two heartbreaking stories of abuse committed against two different woman by people they should have been able to trust. Domestic violence, abuse, molestation, rape- all of these words can seem like letters on a page unless you know the destruction they cause to the very fiber of people’s lives.

I will never understand why there are people on this planet who have such a perverted need for power and control that they can choose to hurt and violate their wives, their children, your wives or your children, someone, anyone, another person who did nothing more than be in their path. Worse yet, so often the victims of abuse have loved their abusers, trusted them, committed to them, depended on them. And yet, these people who have such violent and evil intent can take that trust and that love and turn it into a prison of pain, a lifetime of fear, a world of angst.

Women and children run from their homes in the dark of the night, fleeing for their very existence, just trying to find somewhere to live in safety and peace. Predators follow, they track, they stalk- some refuse to give up -ever. And women and children are forced to run again. and again.

Yes, I know that there are women who abuse and there are men who are abused. It is equally as horrifying and wrong. But the statistics and the stories bear out that women and children pay a much higher price, much more often for nothing more than loving the wrong person.

Tonight, before you go to bed, please, please, tell your loved ones you love them, but far more importantly, show them you love them by your behavior, your choices, your actions. If someone in your world is vulnerable and dependent on you, nurture them and care for them and protect them from the ugliness in this world. There is so much darkness- be a light when you can. And if someone should choose to leave your piece of the world and make their life on their own- let them go in love and in peace. Even when it hurts.

Please, if you have a heart of compassion, go to this blog and read this post:

and leave some words of compassion and love for this person.

I am almost always open to any comments you have, but for this post, I will share the same request that Havi does at The Fluent Self in the above mentioned post. You have every right to disagree with me if you like or to be upset that I posted this message. However, if you are, just for this once, keep it to yourself.

Make the world a more compassionate place to live tonight.

Thank you

Teresa
