Social Media Rocks- But is it Good For Business?
OK, here’s the scoop: Social media is all the rage and I must admit- it’s ton’s of fun. But is it good for business?
It can be incredibly addicting. There are few things I enjoy more than meeting fun new people with creative minds and a zeal for life. And this way, I don’t even have to clean house after everyone leaves- or, if we’re gonna be real here, before they come. I’ve met some truly amazing, generous people in the short time I’ve been using Twitter and Face Book.I get truly amazed by how willing some people are to help others get going on this crazy Internet.
I hesitate to name names, for fear of missing someone, but I can tell you this. I have already blogged about some of them and I will blog about others in the future.
Here’s a short list of some of things I have learned about my business from using social media:
- I’ve learned that there are so many people out there who are willing to share their time and resources and generosity of knowledge and spirit.
- I’ve learned that one of the best ways to get help is to ask for it- and then remember to share the gratitude and love when you get it.
- I’ve learned that some of the biggest names in IM aren’t necessarily the ones to watch.
- I’ve learned that you might just be part of an amazing circle of people before you ever realize it.
- I’ve learned that the best way to change and improve your business is to remove your head from wherever you may have stuck it and just do it.
- I’ve learned that the Universe is more than willing to supply us with everything we could ever want or need.
- I’ve learned that just when you think that it’s too scary to try and follow your dream, you get a second wind of faith from the most amazing sources.
- I’ve learned that tomorrow will arrive if it is meant to and it will become whatever we lay the groundwork for in ourselves.
- I’ve learned that we need to always be aware that our life’s purpose may not be as clear as we once thought it was, but that’s OK. When we are ready, all the teachers not only appear, but they applaud and ask what took us so long?
- I’ve learned that giving back and sharing with others is the fastest ways to grow and prosper and that we all have something to give and share no matter where we are in our path.
On that note, I am going to lay out an idea that I have seen on a couple other blogs recently and joyfully took part in. It’s about bartering. For a lot of folks, money is tight, but even if it isn’t it’s not really the point. I admit, at first I thought it was, but I am realizing that trading services to help each other out can bring some unexpected blessings in our lives that we never imagined.
So, if you are ready to step out and share what you know and do best with a fellow partner in the world of the Internet (fine, in the world of people who read this blog. There, Mom, is that better?) Any way, if you’d like to join in this little adventure, leave a post and tell us who you are, what ya’ got and what you need or desire in return.
Let’s see what we can do in the Universe this week.

Teresa, this post is helpful and, most of all, encouraging. I’m fairly new to social media and just by following some good advice given by just the type of people you describe, I’ve seen my blog traffic increase literally 8-fold in just a few days. Wow!
Thanks for sharing your own wisdom and expertise with the rest of us. You set a good example – it’s not enough to make good in the world; we need to do good, too.

Teresa,
I found you on Remarkabloggers blog.
Great post. I love your writing style. I can definitely say I have also met many people willing to share their knowledge and support.
There have been several times I have asked for something on Twitter and have gotten several responses with answers to my questions.
I also agree that the Universe (God) is more than willing to supply us with everything we could ever want or need as long as we remain forever grateful for what we have and the relationships we’ve grown.
Great, great nuggets of wisdom here, girl! Would love to connect with you
I’m @daliburgado on twitter. I’m also on Facebook.
